On April 1st, dedicated players of the popular New York Times word game “Connections” were shocked and confused by what they saw on their screen. Connections is a word game in which users are given 16 words and have to sort them into 4 unknown categories. On April 1st, however, users were shocked to discover that instead of words, they were presented with a random assortment of emojis. This April Fool’s Day prank by the New York Times prompted many frustrated users to close the app in order to preserve their sanity, while some laughed off the prank and stayed to work out the categories.
The categories for this particular connections were: FOOD SLANG FOR MONEY(Bread, bacon, lettuce, and cheese), WORDS THAT RHYME(Plane, rain, train, and brain), HORROR MOVIES(Alien, Scream, Saw, and Dracula), and LETTER HOMOPHONES(Ewe, bee, eye, and tea).
