It’s finally September, and fall is on its way! Fall is such a beautiful time of year, with the color changing leaves, and cool weather. What better way to experience the new season than to be able to see it from our own local Mount Bald Rock. This location is part of the Heritage Preserve that’s off of Highway 276 in Cleveland, SC. The area spreads out to around 165 acres of land which you are able to look at and admire. Not only do you get a view of the surrounding mountains, but you’re able to witness the different changes that these grounds go through with each season. This viewpoint is taken care of by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, who has been looking after and taking care of the property since 2001. They have been able to enforce rules regarding things like graffiti and trash. That way it can continue to be a thriving and healthy environment that everyone can enjoy. Looking at the graffiti and trash can be a sad thing to see, but it shouldn’t take away from the amazing and natural sites.
A local resident was asked about what they thought about the viewpoint and expressed that when they went up there for the first time, that they have never seen something that beautiful in years. They also mentioned that anyone new to this area would love it, and that there probably isn’t anyone that wouldn’t marvel at the beauty of it.
I was also able to get a visitor’s perspective and when asked about their first time experience, they stated, “It was so gorgeous, and to someone who has been to so many other places, this was one of my many favorites.” They also said that the setting is peaceful and can even be romantic. For this mountain view, the best season to go based on people’s experience would be spring and fall. In the spring you’re able to see everything bloom and grow back, then in the Fall we get to see all the oranges, reds, and yellows on the trees.
A lot of times nature can be hard for people to see or get to because of certain circumstances. Since Mount Bald Rock is so easy to get to and does not contain any hardcore hiking, it leaves a chance for everyone to be able to witness the great mountains of SC.
