Next week is red ribbon week which will be filled with fun activities and a door competition, but why do we celebrate red ribbon week? Red ribbon week started when an officer worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration named Enrique (Kiki) S. Camarena was sent on a mission in Mexico to try and expose a drug trafficking operation when he was so close to exposing the drug dealers he was unfortunately kidnapped while having lunch with his wife there were five armed men that had threw him in the car and drove off. Kiki was found dead a month later, in Kiki’s hometown club members decided to wear red ribbons and make a pledge to be drug free to be able to honor Kiki and all Americans. After the red ribbon week in Kiki’s hometown, it started to spread throughout the United States then a group of parents decided that  Red Ribbon Week should be celebrated nationwide which was successful so now during the week of October 23 – 31 every year we wear red ribbons to show support for people being drug-free.
