When everyone hears about the HHS Band, we automatically imagine the outstanding marching band. There is another side of the band at Hillcrest, the HHS Symphonic Band! Recently, the symphonic band traveled to Pickens to participate in CPA. CPA, for those who don’t know, stands for Concert Band Performance Assessment. It’s a type of evaluation process to assess a concert bands musicianship, ensemble playing, interpretation of music, and sight reading abilities. Students who attended excelled on sight-reading aspects and focused on doing their very best. This year, our band earned an “Excellent” rating! Way to go HHS Band!
This year is also the last CPA for the HHS band director, Mr. Freeland. When interviewed, he stated that the best thing about being in a band setting is the music. Mr. Freeland has worked as a band director for 39 years, stating that everyday is his “proudest day to hear students create beautiful music.”
