For the first time in school history, Hillcrest High School has its name on not just one, but two official streets in Simpsonville. With this new recognition comes an exciting opportunity—Hillcrest students now have a direct hand in shaping the appearance of their city through street cleanups.
“This is a big deal for Hillcrest,” said Ms. Moore, a faculty member involved in the effort. “Not only do we get to take pride in our name being out there, but we also get to give back to the community in a meaningful way.”
The street cleanups provide students with a chance to contribute to the city while also earning valuable service hours. Both Beta Club and National Honor Society (NHS) members can receive four service hours for participating, but the cleanups are open to all Hillcrest students, not just those in honor societies.
Each cleanup event typically sees anywhere from 10 to 30 students in attendance, all working together to clear litter and debris from the streets. Their efforts not only make the city look better but also give Simpsonville’s city workers a well-deserved break.
Keeping the community clean is an important task, and with Hillcrest High School now officially tied to these streets, the responsibility is even more meaningful. This initiative is more than just picking up trash—it’s about school pride, community service, and making a lasting impact on the place students call home.
For anyone looking to get involved, upcoming cleanup dates will be announced soon. Let’s keep Hillcrest—and Simpsonville—looking its best!
