The Hillcrest spring play this year, directed by Mrs. Ballew, is The Wizard of Oz. The students will open with their first performance on Friday, April 11th, followed by two additional shows on Saturday, April 12th. This production has been months in the making, with students dedicating countless hours to rehearsals, ensuring that every scene, line, and movement is perfected for their audience.
The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this classic story to life, incorporating creative and interactive set designs to enhance the experience. Rehearsals run almost every day until 6 p.m., demonstrating the dedication of these students to perfecting their performance. From intricate choreography to memorizing complex lines, the actors and crew are committed to delivering an unforgettable show.
Many students have shared their excitement about the upcoming play. Shay Cooper, a senior at Hillcrest who will be performing as The Wicked Witch of the West, expressed, “I just love working with my director and all of my castmates. Everyone is so friendly, and we all enjoy being here.”
Sawyer Beamish, a sophomore at Hillcrest, added, “We learn how to act and have a lot of fun together.” Sawyer also shared that the theater club is currently working on another production, Twinderella, with performance dates to be announced soon.
When questioned about the musical, Sophomore Nicholas Fann remarks, “I think it’s very interesting. I’m interested to see how they put it together and pull it off.” Even students outside of the theater program are curious about the upcoming production.
The Hillcrest Theater Program has provided a creative outlet for many students, allowing them to showcase their talents in the arts, develop confidence in public speaking, and build lifelong friendships. Whether they are onstage or behind the scenes, these students have poured their hearts into this production, and their hard work deserves recognition.
