Do you have a favorite artist? If so, they were most likely at the Video Music Awards, or “VMAs” for short. The VMAs are an award show created by MTV. The first ceremony was held in 1984 at New York City’s Radio Hall. Many famous singers have performed here, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers (1992), Eminem (2000), and the most renowned performance by Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Missy Elliot (2003). As you can see, the VMAs are a big event for these artists.
This year’s VMAs took place in New York on September 11, 2024, and was hosted by Megan Thee Stallion. Many notable performances included Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck Babe’, Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’, and Katy Perry’s career long medley. When asked about her thoughts on the VMAs, Hillcrest student, Reann Harrigan, a sophomore, explained she enjoyed watching it. She said her favorite part was watching Chappell Roan’s debut performance. Reann also expressed that although she was happy Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year, she wished her favorite artist, Mitski, had won. Who do you think should have won?
