Have you been keeping up with the WNBA lately? If so, then you might know Caitlin Clark has recently been awarded the Rookie of the Year award. I decided to ask people’s opinions on the awards recipient. What I found surprised me, and might interest you.
To give you some background on the two players’ seasons, Clark and Reese have made WNBA history. Clark set a single-game record with 19 assists, and is the first rookie in the league’s history to tally a triple-double. Reese set a record for consecutive double-double (15) and the most rebounds in a season (446).
Now that you have some season highlights from each player, let’s look at who the people think did a better job, or if they have someone different in mind!
Do you think Caitlin Clarke should’ve gotten the award? When interviewing Anaiyah M. I was told, “Yes she’s [Caitlin Clark] a great player, but I feel like it [Rookie of the Year award] could’ve gone to other players” Many people believe that while Caitlin Clark is an amazing player, she didn’t deserve the award compared to Angel Reese and other players. Does Angel Reese deserve the award if she injured her wrist and can’t play to the same caliber?
Do you think Angel Reese should’ve gotten the award? When I asked Min. Latimore “Do you think Angel Reese should’ve been awarded the rookie of the year?” I was told, “Clark’s team advanced higher than Reese’s team, so no I would not say that.” Other people believe that Caitlin Clark earned the award. All the players are held to the same standards when winning an award, so is Caitlin Clark really the best rookie in the WNBA or is it coincidence?
While everyone is entitled to their opinions, I believe Clark earned this award. She put in just as much effort and time as the next player and if that worked in her favor, then so be it. Clark worked hard for this and I think we should all consider her human in addition to the basketball player.
