The 2024-2025 school year has just begun, and the Rampage is kicking off a new weekly teacher interview series with the one and only Dr. Jarrett! Going back to school can be a busy time of year, especially for parents and students. But what’s it like for Hillcrest’s current principal? We asked Dr. Jarrett four questions, and his answers may surprise you!
Our first question: What is the most difficult aspect for you, as the principal, in getting school started again? Dr. Jarrett explains that there is simply too much to narrow down, with the wise statement: “There are a thousand things – often times small things – that have to be planned and executed, and trying to make sure that none of those things were forgotten is hard every year.” We also asked about what he was looking forward to this year, and it sounds like he has high expectations for both the staff and students! He explains, “Last year was such a great year and, as we continue to hone how we operate, I am excited to see how well this year will go.” It’s hard to imagine teachers when they were teenagers, and it’s always fun to hear stories from their youth. Dr. Jarrett was asked about a fun memory from his high school days, and his answer is one that many can probably agree with: “Friday night varsity football games. They were fun to attend prior to me being a varsity player and they were a blast to play in once I was one.” Hillcrest had a great varsity season last year, continuing and creating similar memories for students. To finish out the interview, we asked, “What was your favorite event or aspect of your summer break?” In a true principal fashion, Dr. Jarrett mentions changes to the school: “It was great for me to see some of our campus beautification projects, such as the facelift for the front of the building and the banners in the commons, to be finished. I think it looks a lot better now.”
It’s very clear just how much our principal cares about our school and the community within. As we get back into the groove of things, Dr. Jarrett will be sure to keep things running smoothly. He is happy to be back to Hillcrest and, like the rest of us, is hoping for a great year!
