Rising sentiments over the “walled-garden” Apple has built have come to a climax as recently, with the support of over twelve states the Justice Department has sued Apple.
The focus of the case is on Apple’s technology and its interconnectedness. This interconnectedness is considered a perk to some people, and a curse to others. People with non-Apple smartphones or smartwatches may find it hard to connect to their Apple products, or even do something like adding a friend to a group chat.
The Justice Department wants Apple to stop restricting apps on its app store, and promote integration of other messaging apps instead of making it harder. These changes may still come in vain, as Apple intends to fight the claims from the Justice Department.
As a result of this lawsuit, the period of late February to late March, Apple’s stock took a nearly nine-dollar plunge. The effect of the lawsuit on Apple, the economy, and future business practices will be interesting to watch.
