The Ram, The Myth, The Legend. Few people know who’s under the Hillcrest Ram mascot suit. In order to get to the bottom of this, I asked around the school searching for answers.
My first interview was with tenth grader Noah Grounsell, and when asked the question he said “One of the Mr. Freeman’s boys”. This is definitely a viable answer. The next interview is different: I asked two people the question and created a conversation between them that led to great discourse. Also, the answer pointed me towards a group of people at the school possible responsible for the mascot. The next interview was with eleventh graders Quinton Freeman, and Hayden Super. Their responses confirmed a sneaking suspicion I had from the beginning: that the yearbook crew was behind the mascot. This is an extremely viable answer because of the amount of people in the club, and the club’s accessibility to the behind-the-scenes of events at school.
In acts of investigative journalism, I asked both Principal Jarrett and the top yearbook staff who was under the mask and Principal Jarrett’s answer led me back to yearbook. While the answer of the yearbook staff stopped me in my tracks, because they gave me a vague answer of “human” or “robot”.
The mystery of who is under the mask remains covered in mystery. But, all signs point to the yearbook staff and crew.
