This past Tuesday I had the utmost honor to meet the Students behind the Hillcrest High School social media team and sit them down for an interview. Haylee Guilliams, Olivia Brookshire, and Jocelynn Forbes are the students that make up Hillcrest’s media and marketing team. Their responsibilities include: Running the social media accounts, maintaining the bulletin boards, Taking care of the school mascot Rambo, and the bi-weekly newsletters. They were also the team behind the club walk that happened this past October and are revamping the Freedom Shrine.
This class was started in an attempt to improve Hillcrest High School’s reputation both inside and out and is run by our very own Mrs. Moore a teacher who has been teaching for 13 years. This is the first year she has been teaching this class. She started it up with the help of the students because she had seen that the reputation she heard about the school was not in tune with what she saw inside the building.
When asked why they were doing this class they gave varied answers such as improving college applications and experience in marketing but there was a general consensus that they all wanted to help the school and this was a great way to do this. They all hope to see their numbers grow in the coming year.
So we have heard about what they have done and why they did it but I was also able to get separate interviews with them so we could really understand the team behind all this work and dedication.
The first student we have is Haylee Guilliams. She is a senior this year who cannot wait to start pursuing a career in marketing. If she could share words to any future students she would want them to know that we have a very diverse and smart school and that it goes unrecognized.
Olivia Brookshire is next and like the rest of her team is also a senior this year. She is excited for the future but sad to say goodbye to the school. After graduation Olivia plans to pursue neuroscience at either Georgia University or University of South Carolina. She is epileptic and believes in advocating for other people with her condition and wants to pursue neuroscience for this reason. She is also a dedicated student athlete who has a strong love for tennis and is a thrower on the track and field team. If she could give words to the future she would say not to believe everything you hear.
Last but not least we have Jocelynn Forbes. She is a real busy body that contributes to Hillcrest in many ways from Beta Club President to helping teachers around the school and even other community service clubs. If she could give words for the future she would say that you should pursue your happiness and say what is on your hand. After Graduation she plans to pursue a four year nursing degree.
