Earlier this month, Starbucks’ union released a message on X expressing solidarity with Palestinians admits the Israel-Hamas war. Consequently, Starbucks sued Workers United for trademark infringement, demanding they stop using the name “Starbucks Workers United” and claiming the pro-Palestinian post angered many customers and damaged their reputation. Starbucks also wants the labor organization to stop using a green circular logo. Workers United responded with its own suit, asking a Pennsylvanian court to rule that it can continue to use Starbucks’ logo and name on social media, and claiming that Starbucks defamed the organization by implying that they “support terrorism and violence.” Due to the Israel-Hamas war, many companies are having to grapple with the fallout of showing support for one side or the other. Although the war is being fought in the Middle East, it is spilling into workplaces and everyday life.
