The Phantom of the opera was a very popular musical that played on Broadway for many years, earning the title of Broadway’s longest running performance. The Phantom of the Opera was on Broadway from January 26, 1988 to April 16, 2023.
There were many reasons as to why they had to close down Phantom of the Opera. For example, after the prolonged pandemic it was very costly and difficult to keep up with the Phantom of the opera musical, from the costumes, to the large orchestra, to even the elaborate and amazing sets that are seen throughout the musical. It was just too much of an impact on the wallets of the producer(s) to keep this amazing musical running.
So sadly on April 16, 2023 The Phantom of the Opera did its final run through, and the curtains fell down for the final time. “The music of the night” is truly over now.
