Over 125 students showed up for Hillcrest’s annual Senior Sunrise last Friday. The event was held on the track around the football field at 6:30 AM. Students, still waking up, forced themselves out to the track and laid down their blankets and lawn chairs. Students spent the time playing games and talking with each other, waiting for the first rays of sunlight to pierce the skyline. A few minutes before sunrise, a hush fell over the crowd of seniors as heads turned east towards the pink hue that blanketed the air. The sun rose above the trees as light poured onto the caffeine-lacking students.
Afterward, students dispersed from the track, many opting to get breakfast with friends. Others hung out in the parking lot, waiting for school to open and start the day. Senior Sunrise has become a staple tradition in Hillcrest’s culture and is here to stay.
