The White House Correspondents Dinner is an annual event held to showcase the future plans of the president while doing so in a less formal manner. Some great examples are former President Obama’s Anger Translator and light hearted jokes aimed at politicians. The most recent fiasco caused by these dinners was when the South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, sang “American Pie” for the assembly and President Biden. While Yoon Suk Yeol does not speak English he specifically learned the Don McLean song to perform at the White House. Suk Yeol performed an immaculate rendition of the first verse of the iconic piece of American culture and shocked the crowd with his skill. Biden later remarked on the excellent karaoke performance and was even able to give Suk Yeol a signed guitar by Don McLean. Suk Yeol was audibly excited by the gesture and enthusiastically shook hands with President Biden. While not recorded, rumors have circulated that the South Korean President performed the entire song in the after party. Either way, Suk Yeols performance will forever be remembered as one of the best acts in the White House Correspondents Dinner.
