Last weekend, HHS’s own theater group performed two senior-directed plays on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. One had a serious narrative, The Layover (Directed by Camille Jenkins), while the other was a comedy, The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza (Directed by Connor Miller and Savannah Hindman).

The Layover was the telling of the ins and outs of an airport terminal. Specifically, it followed the frustrations of the protagonist, Dana, played by Anna Prosser, as she met the fellow passengers who were waiting to go to their various destinations. An old married couple, parents and their newborn, and a very energetic child are just some of the people adding to Dana’s confusing journey. Throughout the play, she talks about her running away because of people always thinking that she’s a criminal, and her parents’ apparent lack of attention and care. Towards the end of the performance, it is revealed that the terminal was only a metaphor for the in between of life and after-life, though comedically still acting as an airport for some. Dana finds out that she has passed away, and has to decide if she was a good person or not during her life. As she walks towards the red light, it consumes the stage before darkness, ending the play.

The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza acted as a short retelling of the history of Greek mythology, covering topics like Pandora’s Box and the creation of man, while also discussing Greek gods and goddesses such as Hercules, Harpies, Uranus, Eurydice, and more. This lesson was taught by a fourth-wall-breaking way with two narrators, played by Millie Kennington and Gracie Raymond. Their comedic twists on each historical aspect added to the already interesting play.

I was able to see both on Sunday, their closing night, where they poured their hearts out into each role played. The crew behind the theater deserves so much respect as they continue to come up with fun and original ideas for their performances. Below are pictures, as well as the cast list for both plays:
