November 8th, 2022 was a surprising election for many states and counties across America. Many Republicans reported an incoming “red wave” but woke up to a surplus of democratic candidates. One of the largest upsets was seen in the state of Pennsylvania.  The senate seat predicted for Dr.Oz was revoked and instead given to John Fetterman, the Democratic candidate. The disruption was shocking to both parties as the seat had been predicted to be easily won by a Republican candidate. Multiple other states gained democratic positions in otherwise red districts. However, New York did lose some of its democratic seats to multiple republicans. Florida also saw the first American Gen-Z senator become elected. The man in question, Maxwell Frost, is a 25-year-old African American man, ten years younger than the current youngest senator in the states.

In local news, the South Carolina governor race saw the democratic candidate, Joe Cunningham, face off against former republican Governor Henry McMaster. Cunningham’s platform consisted of legalizing marijuana, eliminating the state income tax, and legalizing sports betting. McMaster’s years as Governor saw improvements in economic and population growth across most of the state. Although Cunningham was greatly popular among young voters, obtaining 40.7% of the state, McMaster overwhelmingly won the state with 58.1%. No matter the results, both candidates made strides to face the daunting task of promoting the welfare of South Carolina and its citizens.
