There has been a rumor going around the internet about a new Disney live-action remake coming out sometime in the next couple of years. While this has not been confirmed, the rumor has been circulating for the last few years due to several other Disney live-action remakes that have been produced (such as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid). Every time a movie is announced or suspected of being created, fans begin discussing who they might want to be the lead actors, or who they think might end up as the lead actors.
A Disney Fan website called Mouse Trap News wrote an article last month that still has people confused about what is actually happening concerning a potential live-action remake of Rapunzel. The website claimed that Disney has released Jada Smith as the lead in a Rapunzel live-action remake. The controversy behind this statement is that Jada Smith has alopecia, meaning she cannot grow hair. It was stated that she was chosen for the role to show inclusivity in the media for other diseases that attack hair growth, implying that the actress would not wear a wig or have hair in the movie by any other means, which completely ruins the purpose of the movie. Lots of sources have debunked this statement as a rumor, and a few more have thrown out the possibility of marvel actress Florence Pugh being first on the list for this role.
The official Disney website has a section for news on movies and things related to past Disney releases. However, there is no recent news that has been released in relation to this supposed remake. Therefore, there is no source that has reliable information confirming that Jada Smith will be the lead in a live-action Rapunzel, or even that there will be a remake.
